A Woman of Distinction demonstrates high ethical standards personally and professionally, is a recognized role model, has a strong sense of community responsibility, and is outstanding in her contributions within Martin County.

With up to fifteen nominees accepted in each of four award categories, being nominated, in itself, is considered to be an honor by the business, professional and volunteer women of Martin County.

The Women of Distinction event is Soroptimist International of Stuart's principal fundraising event. All proceeds from the event are applied directly to funding Soroptimist of Stuart's ongoing community programs, including:

and many other local community service projects.

Soroptimist is an international volunteer organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world. Almost 100,000 Soroptimists in about 120 countries and territories contribute time and financial support to community-based and international projects benefiting women and girls.

The name, Soroptimist, means "best for women," and that's what the organization strives to achieve. Soroptimists are women at their best working to help other women to be their best. As part of this mission, the members of Soroptimist wish to recognize and applaud the women in Martin County who personify the "best for women."
